Case Overview:

This case dealt with an alleged failure to diagnose lung cancer. The patient had a CT in 2004 that showed a spiculated mass in the apex of the left lung, which was not addressed by the treating physicians at the time. Eight years later the patient was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. We were able to render the CT films into 3D representations to show the exact location of the masses in both dates for comparison. The 3D renderings helped the defense show that the original lesion in 2004 was more posterior and superior than the cancer eventually found in 2012. The jury found in favor of the defense.
